Detective Matthew Hulett, who works in the Financial Crimes Unit, admitted Wednesday that he sent Bruce a one-sentence e-mail on Friday asking, “Punch any reporters lately?”

Bruce’s complaint concerns an e-mail the Police Department sent to Neighborhood Watch groups outlining the city’s desire for more revenue. It was emailed to private citizens on the day the ballots arrived, containing four ballot issues seeking more city revenue.

Not only does the message contain false information about alleged past cuts and future threatened cuts, it was obviously sent to portray the city as financially needy and to justify these requests for more money.
