| Note that, starting in 1965, health care costs exploded compared to general inflation (the CPI). why? the Federal government just created Medicare for seniors (and later Medicaid for poor people). When doctors and patients no longer care about cost, because costs will be paid by a third party (you, the taxpayer), then costs will naturally increase rapidly. Realize also that the CPI is already higher than it should be because it includes the health care component. The real difference between health care and all other costs is therefore even greater than shown. |
