03/29/2008	PLANS AIM TO TAKE THE POLITICS OUT OF REDISTRICTING
Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, introduced a competing measure Friday. His proposed constitutional amendment would create a seven-person bipartisan panel to draw the map. Party leaders in the General Assembly would appoint four people, while the other three spots would be reserved for voters who are unaffiliated with either major party.

HB 1245 would have cut the income tax rate, phased out most telecommunications fees, reduced ownership taxes for cars more than 3 years old and ended what Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, called the process of hiking property taxes illegally.

Submit, Douglas Bruce, submit. Think and act like the group, or we’ll crush you. And you are crushable, Bruce, because you’ve acted like a jerk. That’s the message one can take from the hysterical reaction of May and other House Republicans after Bruce refused to co-sponsor and vote for a resolution that said he values our military.

It’s too bad Bruce stood alone, and that other legislators weren’t willing to give students a very important lesson: Frivolous requests for state sanction of turtles, bugs and songs should always be dismissed.
