04/08/2012 Rehashed his vendetta
Noreen shared not one shred of new news, nothing of interest to report and had no reason to say anything at all about Bruce, except to vent his own negative feelings which he apparently is unable to reconcile within his own mind.
02/03/2011 Quit crying about Bruce
Quit crying about Mean Ole Doug Bruce and show how you are doing better.
12/21/2010 Douglas Bruce strikes back
Ted Spaid doesn’t like me; that’s his right. He attacked me personally; that’s his right. The Gazette printed his personal attack; that’s its right. But making false claims is not right.
11/26/2010 What’s wrong with this?
It gets harder to fathom the actions and proposals of the so-called community “leaders” and elected officials of Colorado Springs and El Paso County with each passing day. Give-a ways, bailouts and just downright dumb decisions seem to be the norm in this town.
05/06/2010 Launch an ethics inquiry
It’s clear that the secretary of state and the Attorney General’s Office are targeting Mr. Bruce because he is a successful anti-tax activist. Their persecution is a blatant abuse of authority. I hope to see an ethics investigation opened soon.
05/06/2010 In need of an explanation
I’m confused. I hope someone can explain this to me. Why does the government need to know if Doug Bruce is responsible for amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101?
12/30/2009 Why I like Douglas Bruce
I appreciate what Douglas Bruce has done to help lower taxes, and his attempts to provide government services in a most efficient manner. Those who criticize him fail to recognize the time and energy he has expended.
11/26/2009 Douglas Bruce for high office
I’ve seen good and bad city administrations and I can’t help but admire the attempts by Douglas Bruce to hold this administration accountable for its actions.
10/13/2009 Bruce institute needed
This institute would hire economists, fact checkers, accountants, human resource experts and lawyers to aggressively monitor and report on, all statements and actions proposed or taken by the City of Colorado Springs.
10/07/2009 Bruce, TABOR return to basics
The best way to change politics is to change the politicians.
10/07/2009 Bruce a man of principle
Thank you, Douglas Bruce, for everything you have done for the citizens of Colorado Springs.
04/14/2009 TABOR reins in government
I have lived here all my life. And I know before Doug Bruce and TABOR came here our government didn’t know how to handle money. I remember our city government asking to raise taxes. They said we would have to go without some services if we voted no. Sounds familiar doesn’t it?
12/30/2008 Rebuttal to Sunday GT Article
I see the Sunday Gazette is still recycling the same lies about me. In this edition, many falsehoods were recited in two different stories.
07/23/2008 Response to Endorsement Page Non-Story
Neither Douglas Bruce nor I was trying to claim an endorsement that did not exist. The letters are there for anyone to read and they speak for themselves.
07/10/2008 Waller should have known he was breaking military rules
Waller is a military lawyer in the Reserves. It is his duty to ensure military members know and obey military rules. It is just not believable that he did not know about these long-standing regulations regarding exploiting military status and uniforms for political gain.
06/24/2008 Bruce fights extortion tactics with perseverance, hard work
Let`s defend our TABOR rights by voting for Bruce in the August primary and by voting for these two tax relief petitions in November.
04/05/2008 Bruce takes lawmakers to school on state law
It seems as though everything Doug Bruce does gets unfairly scrutinized by the news media these days.
04/03/2008 Bruce looks out for voters when taxes are on the line
Who do I see the media running to for an interview about the legality of this back-door tax? None other than Doug Bruce. It`s clear Bruce is a leader in this community when it comes to keeping taxes and government spending in check.
03/23/2008 Bruce alone in his struggle to rein in big government
It`s not often that we see nearly all politicians and the media gang up on one man. But when we do, we should say, “That man must be doing something right.”
01/26/2008 Did House have right to censure Bruce?
If Bruce was not a member of the Legislature until after being sworn in, then it looks like the censure was out of order because it was applied to a person not yet a member and over whom the House had no jurisdiction.
01/26/2008 Politicians ganged up to chastise lawmaker
The censure vote in the House concerning Douglas Bruce simply tells me the Democrats and the Republicans will use any excuse to get him.
01/22/2008 Bruce will remain standing when the dust clears
We mere citizens occasionally see one of the people’s representatives who mirrors the patriots who started this great nation over 200 years ago.
01/22/2008 Romanoff set stage for photographer`s gaffe
It is the Rocky Mountain News that should apologize for allowing a photographer in the House who obviously doesn`t understand about protocol, decorum and individual rights.
12/12/2007 Who will keep City Council in line when Bruce leaves?
I hope Bruce takes that in-your-face attitude of less government and more individual citizen responsibility to our state’s House. We will dearly miss him in the Springs.
12/08/2007 Bruce won’t miss out on important work
Democrats may seek an excuse to deny my legal right to offer five bills, but I am not tardy. I had offered to file the first three drafts ahead of the Dec. 1 deadline, but the staff director said he could not accept them until I was elected.
12/04/2007 No-nonsense politician what Legislature needs
Opinionated and sometimes hard to get along with would describe Douglas Bruce, but that is exactly the kind of person we need in office to keep the career politicians in check.
11/13/2007 Maketa went too far in criticism of anti-tax advocate
I totally agree with James Leggett; the remark made by Sheriff Terry Maketa to Commissioner Douglas Bruce can only be characterized as a cheap shot and beneath the dignity of the office he holds.
11/10/2007 Furloughs a reality for county
The main question is: Why aren’t heads rolling? Any private business that loses $4 million and costs employees discomfort usually has consequences that result in someone in management getting the ax.
11/09/2007 Maketa should apologize to Bruce for comment
Sheriff Terry Maketa’s statement that “It is not to get rid of you, it is to put you in an environment that will match your ineffectiveness” was totally inappropriate and in violation of the County Commissioners’ Vision Statement, which states: “We are committed to: respectful interactions characterized by honesty, integrity, fairness, mutual support and open communication.”
11/09/2007 Note to county: Do more with less
El Paso County does not have a tax problem; it has a spending addiction.
09/11/2007 Bruce rebuts claim he flip-flopped
Pam Zubeck’s Friday column misstated my action in voting for a county resolution, which passed 5 to 0 (“Inside the halls of power / Always the outsider,” Metro & State).
08/24/2007 Students could benefit from gift of Constitution
About 70 years ago, when I was 10, I was handed a small bound copy of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence by an aged friend of the family.
08/17/2007 `Tax-and-spend` Gazette has collectivist tendencies
In my 21 years here, The Gazette has never endorsed any Colorado ballot issue to lower taxes. Now The Gazette, counting on our “amnesia,” wishes to insinuate itself with taxpayers and pose as our friend and ally.
11/01/2006 200, 201 opponents stoop to scare tactics
Gosh. Osama bin Laden is craftier than I thought. Instead of planes, he will destroy us with balanced budgets and tax relief.
10/23/2006 What makes Douglas Bruce tick
You say you don't know what makes Douglas Bruce tick and that no one knows. I know.
10/20/2006 Voters weren`t distracted when they approved TABOR
I do not know where The Gazette gets its information from, but I am reasonably sure that everyone who voted on the TABOR measure was aware of what they were voting for.
09/28/2006 Budget figures belie claims of `cuts`
The story County agrees on budget cuts (The Gazette, Sept. 26) is false in multiple regards.
12/06/2005 Vote was against county fair subsidy
I support the county fair and want it to remain in Calhan. I simply fought to end the taxpayer subsidy.
08/22/2005 GT Editorial Rebuttal
On the subject of tax refunds we would lose if Referenda C and D pass, it was your Saturday editorial that was misleading, not the ad by former Senate President John Andrews that you criticized.
04/12/2005 CRYING POOR: Public was misled on lake, budget fixes
Students of political prevarication and monetary misrepresentation hit the jackpot in Fridays Gazette. First, the city admitted it knew before the election that its excess revenue number was falsified, but had suppressed that fact from the public in order to deceive voters into thinking they could fix Prospect Lake only by voting to give up their tax refunds.
10/03/2004 State budget "bloated," not "bare"
The News constantly claims the state has "cut" its budget and faces future "deficits." Creating an aura of crisis might sell newspapers, it might pave the way for the next assault on the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, it might advance the liberal agenda of bigger government - but it is still a lie. When revenue is up, no program spending has to be reduced. Ask any 6-year-old if "more money" means "less money."
08/04/2004 Bruce: Hell bring change to commission
As a social and fiscal conservative a Ronald Reagan Republican I believe smaller and less costly government should perform only those functions the private sector cannot. Volunteer efficiency experts should analyze all county operations for possible privatization, contracting out of services, user fees instead of taxes and merger of duplicated city county services such as parks to cut overhead.
